As Rocky shows us...The Siamese
has the most captivating eyes seen on a feline. Siamese eyes are an almond shaped deep
vivid blue, set on a slant, an eye's width apart with an intelligent, curious
and emotional expression - the essence of the Siamese personality. We
think Rocky is a
Snowshoe (a breed of Siamese). |
The Siamese Cat
was originally from Thailand (previously, Siam) in the late eighteen hundreds.
The first Siamese to appear in England were a gift from Siam to an ambassador
who brought them home. Siamese cats, considered one of the oldest breeds of all
cats, are extremely beautiful and elegant, with aristocratic shaped heads and
silky short hair. They are intelligent cats with an inquisitive personality and
a loving nature. They are great communicators and are very people-oriented. They
love company, and spending time with their humans and are real lap cats. Siamese
cats are distinguished by their light bodies and color points on their ears,
face, feet and tails. They have brilliant blue eyes. The main point colors
include
blue,
chocolate,
lilac
and seal.
The seal points are the best known variety and were the first to be recognized.

The Egyptian Mau
has a delightful personality and a striking appearance. The Mau (mau is the
Egyptian word for cat) has been clearly identified in the artwork of the ancient
Egyptians, leaving no question in the minds of many experts that the Egyptian
Mau is indeed the cat domesticated from a spotted subspecies of the African Wild
Cat by this unique culture. The Mau played a role in the religion, mythology,
and everyday life of the Egyptian. They were worshipped as deities, cherished as
pets, protected by laws, and mummified and mourned upon their death.
The Egyptian Mau has the distinction of being the only natural spotted breed of
domestic cat. An extremely intelligent animal, the Mau places a great importance
on family, both human and their own, and is fiercely devoted to them. The Mau is
moderately active and often express happiness by chortling in a soft melodious
voice and while wiggling tail and treading with the forepaws.

The Mau’s expressive gooseberry green eyes set off by distinctive mascara lines
drawn down the sides of its face, the randomly spotted body, and banded legs and
tail, the worried facial expression, and graceful cheetah-like stride,
distinguish the Mau as an unusual and sought after pet.

Meet MISS KITTY. She is 100% Seal Point
Siamese.
When she was a kitten (as pictured here) she was very light colored. She was the
"runt" of her litter. But as she got older, her points darkened. She
became an expert tree-climber, mouser, lap cat and a great friend. |

Tinker was our
friend Billye's cat. She lives with us now that Billye is gone. She's
becoming great friends with Charles, even though she still likes to taunt him. We
thought she might be a
Ragdoll,
but our friend Diane thinks she's a Turkish Van. |

Feline Trivia
- On average, cats can jump five times as high
as their tail is long.
- The domestic cat is the only feline species
able to hold its tail vertically while walking.
- A cat's brain is more similar to a human's
than a dog's, both having similar areas responsible for emotion.
